30 Day Blogging Challenge: Magic the Gathering Day Twenty-Four

So Magic the Gathering is a game, the collectible card game, but I think most of you reading this know that already. I played way back when the Revised Edition was the main set. I was probably a senior in high school at the time. When they started changing rules and taking certain cards out of print I stopped playing and eventually I needed a large chunk of cash for a new car and I cashed in my collection and never looked back.

23 years later my son and I were looking for a hobby to share. Something that we could do and enjoy together. That is when I found the game again. We bought a Duel Deck and had a ton of fun with that for two weeks and then found a local game shop and are enjoying not only playing but building up a collection of cards.

As a way to commemorate my return to the game and his beginning in the game I found a 30 day MTG blogging challenge and I want to share that with you all here.

With that being said:

Day Twenty-Four-Favorite Planeswalker

This is a part of the game I don’t think I have quite got my head wrapped around yet. Being gone for 20 years and then getting back into MTG the first product I bought was a Duel Deck that featured two planeswalkers. I didn’t get the strategy around them and since there was only one in each 50 card deck they were not a big part of the overall strategy my son and I were employing.

Then we started playing with the fellas at our LGS and every time we would cast a Planeswalker people would freak out and divert all their attention to killing it off. We started to see the effect they can have and how deadly they can be if they are allowed to get out of control.

We now own several and I even have built a deck around them. SInce I play a lot of white I am very fond of Ajani. The boy plays a lot of red so he drifts more towards Chandra. Even though I hate green I have found a lot of uses for Nissa. I also have an Elsepth and Vraska. Last night in trade I picked up my first Jace. As too which version of which is better I have no idea yet, and again as I play my answers will change because whichever one helps me win is the one I am going to be most fond of.

For now I think Ajani Goldmane is my favorite because having a huge creature with power and toughness equal to your life total is quite hard to deal with and demands a response.

Let me give a big shout-out to MTG The Walkers Lounge on Facebook, A great place for all things MTG.
